Lowers Fire Insurance Rating!
In April 2008 our department was inspected by the North
Carolina Department Of Insurance (DOI). As a result of the
inspection, our Insurance rating was lowered from Class 5/9 split
rate to a Class 5 district wide rate. The lower classification means
property owners in our tax district will pay less for their
insurance. The class ratings go from 9 down to 1, meaning 9 being
the highest insurance premium, and 1 being the lowest.
Many exhaustive hours were spent preparing for the inspection. The
classification measures a fire department's preparedness to respond
to structure fires. A department is inspected in such areas as
training hours, pre-fire plans, staffing levels, mutual aid,
communications and water supply.
The new rating went into effect November 1st.
